Fly Swarms: Summer Fly Infestation
Fly Swarms: Summer Fly Infestation
Seems like everyone has been buzzing about the same thing as of late an influx of flies around town! Have you noticed it too? So let’s get into what’s generating this buzz, and see how we can all address it together.
Weather and Our Winged Visitors
You know we love when its summer in Perth, don’t you? We were welcomed with warm sunny weather ideal beach conditions! But this year, we’re not the only ones getting hot. Our recent combination of very hot days and slightly increased humidity, along with those rain showers here and there, has created a perfect breeding ground for flies in our city. Yes if these conditions suck, they will breed up a storm.
Understanding Flies
Understanding the lifecycle of flies can be quite important, really. Flies develop through four stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult. The process speeds up when it’s warm and damp, resulting in more adult flies taking shape in less time. And that’s why we have so many more of them now.
How It’s Affecting Us
When you’re trying to have a nice picnic or BBQ, sudden extra buzz is hard to miss, right? And it’s not just irritating us businesses, particularly hospitality and food, are well and truly suffering having to keep everything clean and comfy for clients.
What We Can Do
But come on, we’re all in this together! There are a few simple steps that we can all take to help reduce the fly populations. One is keeping our spaces clean and not letting trash dwell in them too long. And what about insect screens for our windows and doors to keep our homes fly-free but breezy?
Community Spirit
See how you can show up for all of these people just trying to get through this thing safely. I love seeing how everyone in Perth is coming together on this. Have you looked at the tips and tricks that are being shared online? Everything from homemade fly repellents to funny stories, it’s really great to see the community spirit action. We’re all in this buzz together, and with a little teamwork, I’m sure we can make our summer gatherings peaceful once again.
So, even though the flies are enjoying this weather as much as we usually do, let’s remain optimistic, keep offering useful suggestions and practice kindness towards one another. We’ll, together, return to enjoying our beautiful Perth summer without the added buzz
